During the recent high flows, the highest flow ever gauged in the UK was measured at Balathie on the river Tay, using a Diptone electric winch. The site has no mains power so the winch is supplied by a petrol generator.
Our experience with hydrometric cableways was adapted to provide a cableway for Marine Scotland, to support video cameras on trolleys. The cameras monitor the passage of fish, mainly salmon, passing through a counter. The system takes up to 5 trolleys which can be located at any position across the stream.
Keep up to date. The latest revision of the standard is helpful in dealing with legacy cableways which don’t quite make the full 4375 grade. But note, PUWER and possibly LOLER applies in addition.
